4 Benefits of Group Fitness Classes

By Bryant Billue, BS Exercise Science

  1. Experience Instructor

Group fitness classes are a great way to get a workout in without having to think or plan. Each class is structured by a certified group fitness instructor to insure proper workout structure and safety. The instructor will coach you through each segment of the workout, checking for proper technique and correcting your positioning if necessary. This ensures that you are getting the full benefits of the workout and decreases the chance of injury.

  1. Variety

Is your work becoming boring? There are various types of group classes offered by gyms and athletic clubs such as bootcamp, spin, yoga, HIIT and even more! Having a variety of classes in your weekly workout routine is a great way to challenge yourself and helps prevent boredom.

  1. Social Opportunities

You are likely to have more fun exercising in a group than working out on your own. Group fitness classes are great opportunities to meet people who have similar lifestyle goals and interest. Socialize, make new friends and create connections as you talk with other participants before and after class.

  1. Accountability

Group fitness classes create a sense of community that can provide a feeling of accountability that can be helpful for those finding it hard to stay committed. The instructors and other participants will eventually become like family and want to see you back each week, making you less likely to skip classes. Some classes require members to sign up in advance, having a class booked on your schedule decreases the chances that you will skip it.
